SB 777--State Deputy's Stance |
|

Brother Knights,
At this time I would advise Councils to proceed cautiously with any effort of sponsorship in regards to helping with this issue of getting a referendum put on the ballot. (see Bishop's Policy in info sheet) I am not advising members of the Knights of Columbus against acting as individuals if you choose to help foster the situation. If a Council, group or individual decides to exercise their rights as a citizen of this country, then do so in a manner that exemplifies your Catholicity and show that you are well informed on the issue. Being extremely liberal or conservative toward the issue does not constitute being well informed. If plans are made to gather signatures or ask parishioners to sign petitions on Church property, please be sure to get prior permission, well in advance, from the Pastor to do so. It would also be important to check with your Bishop to make sure he is in favor of any action you wish to undertake regarding SB 777.
Fraternally,
James R. Scroggin
State Deputy
